Carl Celesten Guilfoyle age 79 of Greeley, KS died Tuesday January 24, 2017 at his home.
Carl was born February 28, 1937 in Sperry, Oklahoma. He was the seventh of eight children born to Joseph Patrick and Opal Edith (Roles) Guilfoyle. The family moved to Greeley, KS in 1942 where Carl attended St. John’s Catholic School for a couple of years, then moved back to Ramona OK only to return to Greeley finishing at Greeley High School.
After high school, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Served on the Pacific Ocean side aboard navy carriers, Saratoga and Midway, where he did electronics. He was stationed in Guam where he enjoyed riding his Norton motorcycle around the island.
After the Navy, he returned to Kansas, settling in Osawatomie. Started working at the State Hospital where he met his wife Christine.
He and Christine Cornett were united in marriage on August 22, 1964 at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Osawatomie. Together they had four children, Carl Wayne, Anita, Martin, and they saved the best for last, Jason, at least Christine thought so. They made their home in Greeley, KS.
Carl always wanted to be a cattle farmer, which he did all of his life on his farm in Greeley, where he raised beef cattle. His side jobs included the Union Pacific Rail Road, BEHM, Bus driver for USD 365 which he very much enjoyed driving the activity bus for cross country, wrestling and track. He later returned to work again at the state hospital where he worked in the activity department where he loved playing chess, checkers, playing cards and swimming with the patients.
His hobbies included swimming, playing cards like pitch and poker and drinking coffee at Eastgate and Whistle Stop with his friends. Carl enjoyed driving, would always take different routes, and when unable to drive, would make his grandsons take him. Carl also loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Christine, son Carl Wayne, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include daughter Anita Pace of Greeley, KS, sons Martin Guilfoyle of Greeley, KS and Jason Guilfoyle of Osawatomie, KS. Eight grandchildren, Gregory, Malcolm, Brandon, Mariah, Zachary, Trinity, Titiana and Trisha. One sister, Sister Mary Judith of Oklahoma City. Three sister in laws, Ora Belle Guilfoyle of Fort Scott KS, Kay Clark of Troy KS, Elaine Guilfoyle of Bartlesville OK. Brother in law, Dave Clark. Along with other family and friends.
