Erma Lee Macom age 85 of Lane, Kansas passed away Thursday January 26, 2017 at her home.

Erma was born December 5, 1931 in Swifton, Arkansas. She was the third of five children born to Ray and Irene (Howdeshell) Repetto. She grew up in Swifton, Arkansas and attended school until the 7 th grade.

After WWII she met Gerald S. Macom and they were united in marriage on February 24, 1947. They made their home in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The couple had four children. Erma and Gerald then moved to Illinois where they had six more children and settled in Chenoa. Erma went to work to help to support the family of twelve. She was the Activities Director for the Livingston County Nursing Home in Pontiac, Illinois. Erma earned her GED 26 years after she quit school. She would drive four nights a week to Bloomington, Illinois to attend review classes before taking the test.

In 1980, the family moved to Osawatomie for a while and then settled in Lane, Kansas. Erma worked for the Holiday Manor in Osawatomie for a short time until she went to work as a psychiatric aide at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She worked there for about 5 years. Erma attended Fort Scott Community College and graduated with her associates degree in 1996 along with one of her granddaughter’s.

Erma had many interests and hobbies. She loved genealogy, painting, crocheting, needlepoint, sewing and photography. She was a very good cook and with ten children had to use her imagination in the kitchen. Erma loved animals and would feed and care for any that would happen to wander to her door. In her travels, she went to visit her daughter who was stationed overseas and got to visit many places in Europe.  She was a member of the Shepherd's Chapel Church in Gravette, AR. Also, she was one of the charter members of McThomas of North America, a Scottish association. She served as their treasurer for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years Gerald, one son Stephen Macom, her parents, brothers Cleatis Repetto and John Repetto and sister Faye Hanshew.

Survivors include two sons David Macom and Scott (Stacy) Macom both of Lane, KS, seven daughters Sheila (John) Maubach of Gridley, IL, Shirley Diane (Bob) McDaniel of Ottawa, KS, Kay Hall of Paola, KS, Paulla Woomer of Euless, TX, Bobbie (Mark) Thompson of Centralia, IL, Barbara (John) Rogers of Missouri and Mellissa Macom of Lane, KS, nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, sister Donna Marlin, Bloomington, IL, sister-in-law Moselle Cotner, Clinton, IL and brother-in-law Kenneth Hanshew, LeRoy, IL. Along with many other family and friends.
