Morris Samuel Kane....Age 90

Morris S. Kane, 90 of Osawatomie, Kansas died February 1, 2017 at his home.

Morris Samuel Kane was born June 29, 1926, in Leavenworth, Kansas.  He was the fourth of ten children born to Louis Harold Kane and Grace Delores (Morris) Kane.

He attended Rock School District #34 in Kickapoo Township until the 8 th grade.  In October of 1944 Morris entered into service with the United States Navy.  He was stationed at Ft. Pierce, Florida.  He was a seaman 1 st class and fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  He was honorably discharged in July of 1946 in Great Lakes, Illinois.

In 1949, Morris started working with the Missouri Pacific/ Union Railroad as a track layer.  He met Erma June Lease and they married on October 17, 1961 in Osawatomie, Kansas.  Together Morris and Erma had three children.

He worked many hours covering the Eastern Kansas region for the Railroad.  Morris worked his way up from track layer to signal maintainer and even helped with the installation of the crossing arms on Main Street in Osawatomie, Kansas.  After 37 years of service, on February 25, 1985, Morris retired at the age of 58.

In his 20’s Morris started playing the harmonica.  He and Erma loved going to Cadmus Grange to listen to music and dance.  He would sometimes bring his harmonica and sit and play along with the music.  When he was not working he enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters and his Step-Son Garry Wayne Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Erma, Step-Daughters Katherine (Joe) Bennett of Kirbyville, MO, Evelyn (Don) Vanderpool of Waldron, AR, Donna (Glen) Krause of Emporia, KS.  Daughter Erma (Don) Banta of Springdale, AR.  Sons Michael Kane of Belton, MO and Clifford Kane of Topeka, KS.  Six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Also one brother Raymond Kane of Cummings, KS and Sister Anita Trapp of Grove, OK.
