Alice Joyce Lang age 96 of Osawatomie, KS died Friday March 10, 2017 at her home.

Joyce was born January 25, 1921 in Irondale, Missouri. She was the eldest of four children born to Herman Charles and Anna Lee (Eye) Dickey. She grew up and attended school in Boonville, Missouri where she graduated with the class of 1939.   After high school she attended Central College in Fayette, MO for one year.  She was baptized March 15, 1936.

She then went to work for the Hydrographic Office of the Navy in Washington, D.C. She said “it started out as a relatively simple typing job, but after the war started it became increasingly more complicated and interesting.” Joyce worked in Washington D.C. for 3 or 4 years before moving back to Missouri.

When she got back she met Robert Keith Lang. They were united in marriage by her Uncle Leslie Clemons on November 27, 1947 in Desloee, MO at their home.  In December of 1947 the couple moved to the Miami County area where they made their home. Together the family had five children Michael, Larry, Carol, Barbara and LeeAnn.

Joyce worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital as a secretary. Then she went to work for Behm in Osawatomie also as a secretary. After several years of working for Behm, Joyce decided to stay home and spent her time doing what she loved.

She was a member of the Miami County Genealogy and Historical Society, Missouri Pacific Women’s Club, Site Council, Senior Center, NARVE, and TOPS (Taking off pounds sensibly). She was an avid member of the 1 st Baptist Church of Osawatomie. She was the secretary of the Mera Class at the church and they were insutmetal in starting the Osawatomie Clothes closet.

Joyce loved genealogy and that was her main hobby but she also loved to garden. She grew flowers, herbs and vegetables. She would can everything she grew. When her children were growing up she sewed clothing for them. She loved card games and playing BUNCO at the senior center in Osawatomie. When she was younger she even took flying lessons with her sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents, sister Wilma Joelner, three grandchildren Melissa Lang, Jacob Rhea and Draven Cathcard.

Survivor include sons Michael (Tracy) Lang of Burlington, KS and Larry Lang of Lane, KS. Daughters LeeAnn (Charles) Lee of Lane, KS. Carol (Jack) Rhea of Osawatomie, KS and Barbara (Richard) Stifter of Lane, KS. Grandchildren Melinda, Melissa, Travis (Kelly), Christina(Carey) Victoria, Marcy(Steve), Chad, Holly(Dane), Jack(Amy), Stacia(Jered), Fred(Tara), Bob(Tiffany), Lisa(Marty), Laurie and Charlie, great grandchildren Skylar, T.J., Nolan, Jacob, Zavary, Jase, Andrew (Carolyn), Madison, Alice, Noah, Jackson, Alexis, Kody, Hunter, Logan, Parker, Olivia, Shane, Mallory, Kaylee, Kasey, Kelsey, Kamry, Luke and Kingston and one great great grandson, Brayden on the way. Brother Herman (Marie) Dickey of Katy, TX and sister Irma (Bob) Sieg of Granite City, Il. Along with other family and friends.
