Amanda Lou Land

Amanda Lou Land went home to be with her Lord, and her beloved Charles, on June 22, 2024 while residing at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas. She was 95 years of age.

Amanda was born November 22, 1928, in Cass County, Missouri, near Drexel. She was the third child of Ray and Lillie (Musick) Maloney. Amanda grew up in Drexel area and graduated from Drexel High School with the class of 1946.

Amanda was the high school sweetheart of Charles B Land. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1947, six miles east of Drexel at Amanda’s parents’ home. They made their home near Drexel where they owned and operated a Grade A Dairy. They became parents of three sons: Donald Leroy, Steven Alan, and Robert Dale. Steven died in infancy. They later moved to rural Miami County, near Osawatomie, Kansas. Charles preceded Amanda in death. He died October 23, 2008 at home with Amanda by his side. Amanda stayed on the farm until October of 2019 when she moved to Cumbernauld Village in Winfield to be closer to family.

Amanda became a Christian at an early age and was a member of the Drexel Baptist Church until moving to Osawatomie in 1953. She then was an active member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, and later at First Baptist Church in Osawatamie.  After high school, Amanda attended Central Missouri State Teacher’s College (Now University of Central Missouri) at Warrensburg, and received her Teaching Certificate and taught briefly in rural one room country schools. She also worked for many years with the Osawatomie Graphic Newspaper doing offset layout work for the paper.

Amanda and Charles were great neighbors to anyone that wanted a neighbor.  As a young couple with a growing family, they taught their cityslicker neighbors, the Corrys, how to farm!  They built their home near Osawatomie, developed the farm and raised a huge garden to feed their family.  Amanda loved the flowers blooming around her home.  She always baked a lemon cake, her grandchildren fondly remember, but her boys remember the Christmas caramels!  Amanda and Charles supported their sons through band, choir, and many sports teams.  They were very proud that they provided a college education for their sons, and both graduated from Kansas State University.

Amanda and Charles were very active with the Order of the Eastern Star in their younger years.  They both loved to sing together at church and with community choirs.  Amanda was quite an accomplished painter and painted many pictures, dishes, and other items for family members.  She was also a collector of plates and Santa Clauses, too numerous to count.

Preceding Amanda in death were her husband Charles B; her son, Steven; her parents and grandparents; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Lavone and Charley Croson, Marie and Junior Huiatt, and Dixie and Gene Allen.

Amanda is survived by her sons and their wives, Don and Beth Land of Cedar Vale, KS; and Bob and Lisa Land of Andover, KS; grandchildren, Shane Land and wife, Kady of Plain, WA; Jeremy Land and wife, Becky of Pierce City, MO; Katie Land of Webb City, MO; Steven Land and wife, Meagan of Fort Worth, TX; Rachel Land and husband, Samuel Parker of Richmond, VA; and Becca Cook and husband, Brett of Wichita, KS; six great grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, July 1, 2024, at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, Kansas.  Interment will follow at Sharon Cemetery in Drexel, Missouri.  A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home from noon to 1:00 on Monday.  The family will greet visitors at that time.

Memorials have been established in Amanda’s name for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and for First Baptist Church of Osawatomie.  Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas.
