Ashley Ann Smith, 36 of Osawatomie, Kansas passed away Friday November 18 th 2022 at The University of Kansas Medical Center.
Ashley was born on September 24 th , 1986, in Kansas City, Kansas at Bethany Hospital. She is the youngest of two born to Anthony Lee Hess and Kimberly Ann Hess. She was a graduate of Paola High School, class of 2005.
After high school, Ashley worked a number of odd and end jobs. The jobs she mostly enjoyed were the ones where she was able to serve others in her community. Her last place of employment was with The Resource Center for Independent Living where she was able to serve her mother, aiding her with in home needs.
On September 24 th , 2011, Ashley married the love of her life, Calvin Ray Smith Jr. in Paola, Ks on the town square. She was a devoted wife who always supported her husband’s interests, hobbies and ideas that he may have had throughout their time together. She always talked about how much she adored Calvin and that she enjoyed doing everything she could to make him happy in life.
Ashely had a servant’s heart. She absolutely loved taking care of others and always made it a point to put others needs before her own. She was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning and decorating her and Calvin’s home. She was an amazing aunt to her niece, Olivia, and her nephew Owen, often going overboard with spoiling them both. Ashley was able to spend the first nine months of Owen’s life babysitting him in Anthony and Chantal’s home twice a week. During this time, Chantal and Ashley were able to become the sisters that they always wanted in life. Ashley was famous for her cake pops that she made often for special occasions, especially for Olivia’s birthday parties. She gained her servants heart from her mother, to whom she had a strong and close personal relationship. She had a very determined personality in that she wouldn’t quit on a task that she was passionate about until it was completed. Ashley was also very handy around the house. She gained these qualities from her early years of always following her father around while he was working on projects around the house or going on side jobs that he would work. Ashley commanded excellence from those around her, literally, just ask Calvin and Forrest, her brother-in-law, whom she also lived with; she always had task for them to complete around the house. Ashley and her brother had a very close bond. They enjoyed picking on one another, making jokes at each other expense. The thing Anthony will miss the most is making her laugh until she literally couldn’t breathe and couldn’t stop coughing.
Ashley is survived by her husband Calvin Smith Jr, her father Anthony Lee Hess of Olathe, Ks. Her mother Kimberly Ann Hess of Paola, Ks. Her mother-in-law Stacy Skeens of Waverly, Ks. Her father-in-law Calvin Smith Sr. of Hillsdale, Ks. Her maternal grandparents Glenn & Wanda Gabhart of Osawatomie, Ks. Her brother Anthony Robert Hess, sister-in-law Chantal Hess, niece Olivia Hess and nephew Owen Hess of Paola, Ks. Her brother-in-law Forrest Smith. Also, from Norman, Ok., her brother and sister-in-law Nathan and Michelle Smith and two nieces, Jayden and Wynterlynn Smith.
