Barbara Ann Zuel age 76 of Osawatomie, KS died Sunday January 27, 2019 at Olathe Medical Center.

Barbara was born July 7, 1942 in Bucyrus, KS. She was the eldest of four daughters born to Jesse Junior and Frances Eleanor (Wheeler) Spencer. She grew up in Parker, KS and graduated with the Parker Rural High school Class of 1960.

On November 19, 1961 Barbara and James Arthur Zuel were united in marriage in Osawatomie. Together the couple had two children Cinda and Rex. The family made their home in rural Osawatomie.

Barbara stayed at home with her children until 1976 when she returned to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital where both, she and James, worked prior to marrying.  After many years of working, Barbara decided to go to night school to be a nurse. Barbara received her nursing degree from Neosho County Community College and became a Registered Nurse at OSH in 1991.  She worked in that position until her retirement in December 2004.

When her children were younger, Barbara was very active in their activities. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and softball coach. Barbara was a skilled seamstress. She sewed quilts, garments and especially enjoyed making dresses and other items for her granddaughters and great granddaughter.  She also enjoyed doing various craft projects. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie. She was a Rebekah and active in the Presbyterian Women. For years, Barbara was on the board for the Friends of the Mentally Ill. In the most recent years, she volunteered at the John Brown Cabin.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents and sister Mary Spencer Dunbar.

Survivors include her children Cinda (Grady) Atwater of Osawatomie, KS and Rex (Kelli) Zuel of Olathe, KS. Two granddaughters Alli and Lexi Zuel and one great granddaughter Acelynn Zuel-Davis. Two sisters Florence Harclerode of Osawatomie, KS and Cheryl Tunks of West Virginia. Along with other family and friends.
