Beverly June “Bev” Mills age 87 of Osawatomie, KS died Friday October 20, 2017 at her home.
Bev was born June 17, 1930 in Fontana, KS. She was the eldest of two daughters born to Ernest Theodore & Josephine Elizabeth (Beck) Detmering. Bev grew up in Fontana and graduated in 1948 from Osage Township High School in Fontana.
Bev and Bernard Eldon Mills were united in marriage on August 7, 1949 in Paola, KS. They began their married life on a farm south west of Fontana and started their family. Bev and Eldon had three daughters, Linda Lou, Kathleen Sue and Sharon Kay. In 1954 the family moved to Osawatomie where Eldon owned and ran the Standard Oil Service Station. In 1958 they returned to farming life west of Fontana. Bev helped on the farm and worked at the Fontana General Store. She also clerked for the Paola Sale Barn and started employment at the Fontana Post Office. In 1987 they moved back to Osawatomie and in 1988 she retired from the Post Office after 30 years of service.
Bev was baptized into Christ October 21, 1945 and has remained a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Fontana. She was a stong woman of faith and enjoyed serving her Lord playing paino, teaching Sunday School, and caring for others.
Bev loved to do crafts, restore old trunks and organize photo albums. She was a gifted quilter, taught classes, and was a member of the Miami County Quilters Guild. Bev was also a member of the Miami County Hospital Auxiliary. After retirement, Eldon and Bev loved to travel to any location with mountains. Their favorite destination was Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Martha Jo Watson.
Survivors include husband of 68 years, Eldon of the home, three daughters Linda Mills of Omaha, NE, Kathleen (Jerry) Valentine of Fort Scott, KS, and Sharon (Dennis) Hurt of LaCygne, KS. Two grandchildren Melissa (Wes) Chambers, Rick (Jaci) Hurt, two step-granddaughters Lindsay (Chris) Krueger and Erin (Kyle) Youngs. Eleven great grandchildren, Ted, Sam & Emma Chambers, Cali, Tobi and Mike Hurt, Gabe, Nate and Everly Krueger and Kipton & Harper Youngs. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends who will miss her dearly.
