Carl James Long Sr. age 72 of Paola, KS died Thursday April 12, 2018 at his home.

Carl was born October 4, 1945 in Topeka, KS. He was the youngest of nine children born to Mickie Dugan Long and Pearl Fields. He spent most of his childhood in foster care. He grew up in Louisburg and lived with his foster mother Dorothy White.

After school, Carl went to work. He worked at a filling station and the City of Olathe in the waste management department. Carl then went to work for an oil company in Wellsville. There is where he started driving a truck. Carl loved driving a truck. He began his career driving a dump truck. He hauled road material all over for different companies.

Carl married Doris Jackson together the couple had two children, Carl Jr and Kim. The marriage later ended in divorce. On July 14, 1972, Carl married Kathryn Elizabeth Cecil in Paola, KS. Together the couple had two sons Terry and Brian. Carl and Kathy were married for 42 years until Kathy passed in March of 2015.

Carl was the owner and operator of a fruit and vegetable stand. He would set up every weekend in Osawatomie and Paola.  He loved watching WWE wrestling and would take his kids to see them live when they were in Kansas City. Carl was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Paola and was a bar manager at the VFW in Wellsville.  He loved buying scratcher tickets and even won a couple times. Carl would take his kids for drives on Sunday and they would listen to Country music and just cruise.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years Kathy, his parents, three siblings Mike, Larry and Lucille.

Survivors include his children Carl (Margo) Long Jr. of Springfield, MO, Kim (Robert) Baucom of Belton, MO, Terry (Tamara) Long of Paola, KS and Brian Long of Paola, KS. Six grandchildren Elisia (Josh), Molly (Sean), Phillip, Kelsey, Lee, and Kaitlyn and two great grandchildren Noah and Jonah. Along with other family and friends.
