Charlene Belshe age 80 of Paola, KS died Thursday January 4, 2018 at Overland Park Regional.

Charlene was born June 1, 1937 in Kansas City, KS. She was the second of three daughters born to William Charles and Lura Marie (McCullou) Wedderstrand. Charlene grew up in Argentine, KS where she attended school and graduated with the class of 1956.

After high school, Charlene went to work for South Western Bell as an operator. Then on October 27, 1957, William Elbert Belshe and Charlene were united in marriage in Argentine, KS.  The couple made their home on a farm in Paola, KS. Together they had four children, William Jr., Pam, Debbie and Patty.

Charlene was a farmer’s wife but could be classified a farmer herself. She helped with all the chores. She drove the tractors and combines, milked cows and did whatever was needed. When the kids were in school, Charlene started working for the Fontana Elementary School in Fontana, KS as the secretary. Then after many years, she went to work as a Secretary for the George York School in Osawatomie. After 10 years at George York, Charlene became disabled and retired early.

Her hobbies include crafts, crocheting, fishing and camping. Charlene bowled in a league for a while and also helped her children when they were in 4-H. Charlene loved to go to flea markets and garage sales. She and Bill would go on many adventures even if they didn’t know where they were going. Charlene lived for her family. She never missed a game where her kids or grandkids were playing. She was a member of the 1 st Baptist Church of Paola.

She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years William Sr., her parents and two sisters Jean Fortner and Betty Hixson.

Survivors include son Bill Belshe of Fort Scott, KS, three daughters Pam (Dawn Lloyd) Belshe of Paola, KS, Debbie (Barry) Medeiors of Gardner, KS and Patty (Carson) Comer of Fontana, KS. Grandchildren Tyler (Laura) Belshe, Kyle (Katie) Belshe, Jessica Belshe, Jeremy (Mary Dayton) Crosby, Alisha (Henry Reifschneider) Medeiros, Shell Jackson, Carrie Weaver, Jessica Skirvin, Jason Medeiros, Amber (Ashley) Campbell, Shelby (Gary Scarbrough) Belshe, MaKayla Belshe, Michael Comer, Casey Comer, Freda Wilson, Joseph Lloyd and Thomas Lloyd, and 33 great grandchildren. Along with other family and friends.
