David Leon Dennis

David Leon Dennis Jr, 81, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Nevada, MO. He was born in North Hornell, NY, on October 21, 1942 the son of David and Ernestine (Adams) Dennis. David was a kind, caring, gentle man who will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

David attended Williamsport, PA Technical Institute following graduation from high school in Canisteo, NY in 1960. In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army and underwent basic training at Ft. Leonard, MO. He served as a US Army Engineer serving in the European Theatre, He was honorably discharged in 1965.

On May 7, 1966, David married Beverly Barnett in Paola, KS. They lived in Canisteo, NY for 4 years before moving to Osawatomie, KS.

In his career David worked at Foster Wheeler in Dansville, NY, Bhem Corporation in Osawatomie, KS, Havens Steel in Ottawa, KS and in 1986 David and Beverly purchased Barnett & Sons Plumbing & Heating in Osawatomie, KS. He also worked at Family Center in Paola, KS.

After retirement David and Beverly enjoyed many years RVing throughout the south and southwest finally settling at Lake Chaparral in Mound City, KS.

David is survived by his wife Beverly, sister Christine Thomas, sister-in-law Alrene Dennis, Evelyn (Glenn) Camerer, Sonia Sherman, Dixie Barnett, nieces Susan (John) Lynch, Kresta Scherman, nephews Tracy (Bridgit) Thomas, Shawn (DeAnna) Younkin, Brandon (LaDell) Younkin.

He is preceded in death by his parents David and Ernestine Dennis, parents-in-law Leo and Helen Barnett, brothers David Charles and Eldon Dennis, brother-in-law Lloyd Barentt, Kody Sherman, Clyde Younkin, nephew Jay Thomas, and niece Alyssa Sherman.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Life for David and Lloyd will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Paola Senior Center, Paola, KS. Contributions in David’s memory cam be made to the Masons.

The Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, KS, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
