Dennis Roy Hodgkinson....Age 77

Dennis Roy Hodgkinson, age 77, was a longtime resident of Osawatomie, Kansas.  He passed away quietly on March 29, 2020 after a short battle with lung cancer.  Dennis was born January 5, 1943 in Larned, Kansas and was the son of Bertha (Mettscher) Hodgkinson and Robert Roy Hodgkinson.  He grew up in Pratt, Kansas where he played football and enjoyed other outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He graduated from Pratt High School in 1961.

Dennis married Patricia Ann Wilt and together they had three daughters.  They divorced after 31 years. He spent most of his career in the grocery business.  Dennis worked in many local stores including the Osawatomie IGA, Safeway, Ralph’s, and Price Chopper.  He also acquired his Licensed Mental Health Technician certification and worked part time for the Osawatomie State Hospital.

Dennis enjoyed meeting new people during the time he was working with the public.  He chose a much quieter lifestyle in his later years and spent time with his children and grandchildren and his beloved dogs.  He loved a good western movie and was a lifelong football fan. Dennis especially enjoyed cheering on his Oklahoma Sooners and Kansas City Chiefs.

His survivors include his daughters, Lori (Jim) Ferraro of Pittsburg, Kansas, Tammi (Dan) Giakowski of Osawatomie, Kansas.  His grandchildren, Jakob Billingsley, Ben (Bernadette) Ferraro, Elizabeth Billingsley, Lukas Billingsley, Annisa (Thomas) Catron, and Aric (Jennifer Edie) Cooperwood.  He also was the grandfather of two great grandsons and a great granddaughter. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Dennis was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Wendi Jenkins, his parents, three brothers, and sister.
