Donald Bruce Zuel age 81 passed away at 5:30pm on April 28th while in the presence of his loving family. Don was born in a farm house on the outskirts of Louisburg, Kansas. He graduated high school from Paola High School in 1960. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Navy. In 1961, Don met Ellie May Gulick and married her on July 15th 1961. They had a loving marriage of 60 years.
Don worked for Marley Cooling Tower Inc. for 37 years as a maintenance supervisor and for Triko Inc. for 15 years as the motor pool mechanic supervisor. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, Don enjoyed coaching his three sons in the sports of football and baseball. Don spent 20 plus years in coaching baseball and being an umpire at many different levels. He also enjoyed being a Cub master and Webelos leader for Pack 3083 in Olathe, Kansas. Don excelled at black powder target shooting where he earned the Kansas State Championship at 50 yards and 100 yards rifle on several occasions.
In his free time, Don enjoyed working and developing land south of Osawatomie. In 2002, Don and Ellie placed a house and began living full time. While living on his farm his hobbies were target shooting, hunting both deer and turkeys and playing with his horses, mules and donkeys until his death.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Ella Zuel and son Carl Zuel.
He is survived by his two sons; Ron Zuel and Ken Zuel, Carl’s widow Juli Zuel and daughter-in-law’s Staci Zuel and Lisa Zuel, four grandchildren; Hunter Zuel, Julianna (Kyle) Peppers, Tyler Zuel and Samantha Zuel and one great grandson Broly Peppers.
