Doris Eleanor Davis age 92 of Osawatomie, KS died Wednesday November 14, 2018 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Doris was born March 23, 1926 in Fontana, KS. She was the eldest of three children born to Frank Alvin and Myrtle Hilda (Collins) Hoppe. Doris grew up in Fontana where she attended school. She graduated with the Fontana High School Class of 1944. After high school, Doris attended Pittsburg State University and Fort Scott Community College where she earned her Associates Degree.
On May 12, 1946, Doris and Donald Guy Davis were united in marriage in Fontana. To this union was born four children, Angela, Loree, Kenneth and Keith. Don and Doris made their home in Osawatomie for the next 72 years.
Doris worked for the Osawatomie State Hospital as a Mental Health Aide for five or six years. She then went to work for the Osawatomie School District in the kitchen. Doris worked as a cook for the school for 17 years until retiring. She then decided to keep busy and became a substitute teacher and would read to the children at the elementary school.
Doris was very active. She was a charter member of Frontier Twirlers square dancing club. She was a member of Paola Quilt Guild and the Osa-Lane Stichers. Doris was a member of the First Christian Church of Osawatomie. Doris was also involved in Christian Women’s Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her parent, brother William “Bill” Hoppe, sister Roberta Walker and grandson Chad Welch.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Don Davis, children Angela (Gail) Kline of Garnett, KS, Loree (Steve) Grimes of Osawatomie, KS, Kenneth (Suzann) Davis of Paola, KS and Keith (Sarah) Davis of Osawatomie, KS. Eight grandkids Gayla Harvey, Tony Kline, Zack Grimes, Jeffrey Davis, Kirsten Dane, Karah Gearhart, Erika Davis, and Blake Davis and two great grandchildren Eden and Wylie. Along with other family and many friends.
