Edith Esther Kester, 97 ½ years old passed away May 20, 2023 in Oklahoma City where she has lived for the last 8 years. She was born in Somerset, Kansas on December 12, 1925 to John Horatio and Esther Quincy. She attended rural schools until beginning high school in Paola, Kansas where she graduated in 1942. After graduating she taught school for 2 years.
On January 1, 1946 she married Henry Glenn Kester. They spent their first three years together in Columbus, Montana where she worked in a doctor’s office. They had 2 sons while living there, Richard Alan and Gary Wayne. In 1949 they moved back to Kansas and settled in Olathe. In 1950, they moved to Osawatomie where they made their permanent home. Adding to their family then was a daughter Sharon Elaine.
She spent several years working at Weaver’s Furniture Store until taking a position with the City of Osawatomie. She served as the City Clerk until retiring in 1987.
She was active in the First Christian Church, singing in the choir and holding the treasurer position for several years. They transferred their membership to the First Baptist Church. She loved going to church and singing to the Lord.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Glenn and a granddaughter, Sheri Diane. Also preceding her in death were 3 brothers, Orin, Louis and Fred Quincy and a sister, Ethel Goodeyon. She is survived by sons, Richard of Winfield, Kansas and Gary (Pat) of Wagoner, OK and a daughter Sharon (Doyle) Ingram of Oklahoma City. She has 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
In 2015 Edith moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to family. There she lived in independent living and enjoyed dominos every day, bingo twice a week and Wii bowling twice a week.
Edith enjoyed cooking and baking. She especially liked being outside enjoying her love for nature which was nurtured by her mother. Her very favorite thing to do was just spending time with her family.
