Eugene Marion “Gene” Kramer age 98 of Osawatomie, KS died Tuesday August 27, 2024 at his home.
Gene was born January 27, 1926 in Garnett, KS. He was the third of nine children born to Charlie “Burly” and Martha May (Kennard) Kramer. Gene grew up in Melvern, Quenemo and Vassar, KS. After school, he went to work with his dad doing odds and end jobs. At the age of 17, Gene enlisted into the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy, he was a radioman on three separate merchant ships in the South Pacific. Then in 1945, Gene was honorably discharged.
On July 9, 1946, Gene and Lorraine Kathryn Thompson were united in marriage in Ottawa, KS. They made their home in Osawatomie. To this union came five children; Janice, Mary, Michael, Carl and Barbara. Gene and Lorraine were married for 73 years until Lorraine’s passing in 2019.
Gene worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for a short time and then went to work for Weaver’s National Brands Store in Osawatomie as a Service Technician. With his brother’s, Gene also worked for Kramer Service station in Paola at the same time. In 1984, Gene started working for Murray Television in Paola as a service technician. Some say he was the best technician in the Miami County area.
In his spare time, Gene enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and reading. When his children were growing up, the family took many vacations all over North America. He was a member of the Paola Eagles, VFW and American Legion. In the late 90’s, Gene was the state president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Most of all, Gene was a genuine, kind and patient man.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his parents, four brothers; Richard, Floyd, Willie and Charles “Bud” Kramer and sister Clara Green.
Survivors include his children; Jan Elliot of Golden, MO, Mary Ticknor of Kansas City, MO, Michael Kramer of Osawatomie, KS, Carl Kramer of Wichita, KS and Barbie Brocker of Fontana, KS, three brothers; Perry Kramer of Olathe, KS, John Kramer of Paola, KS and Glenn Kramer of Lawson, MO, ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
