Ferdinand "Bud" Hermesmeyer... Age 92

November 23, 1929 — September 10, 2022

Ferdinand Charles “Bud” Hermesmeyer age 92, of Osawatomie, Kansas died Saturday, September 10, 2022 at his home.

Bud, as he was known to everyone, was born November 23, 1929 in Groom, Texas. He was the second of six children born to Bernard J. and Beatrice M. (Bohr) Hermesmeyer. Bud and the Hermesmeyer Family moved several times before he graduated from Cherryvale High School and was drafted in to the Army and served in Korea in 1952 and 1953.

In the summer of 1954 Bud was attending the fair in Ottawa, Kansas with friends when he met his future wife Mary Jo. Jo was friends with Bud’s twin sisters and though the meeting was unusual the connection was amazing. On November 23, 1955 Jo and Bud married at the Catholic Church in Ottawa. The young couple made their home on the Hermesmeyer family farm for about ten years, and became the parents of two children Patricia and Daniel.  In 1965 they moved to Osawatomie and remained in the same house until it burned in 1997. They then rebuilt their home on the same spot which is where Jo and Bud spent their remaining days together.

Bud liked to spend time at the lake, most weekends were spent camping at Pomona swimming, boating and jet skiing with his children and grandchildren. He coached baseball & softball, was a Scout Master for Boy Scouts, enjoyed picking up walnuts each fall and even made jewelry out of them. Bud lived to be out doors and spend his free time on his large deck under the shade tree with Jo. He liked to build create things from scratch and made rocking chairs, knives, toy boxes, windmills, wishing wells, and so much more. He worked until he was 72 as a Boilermaker, Pipefitter, Carpenter, drove a semi and even worked for the railroad. He absolutely loved being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the sweetest grandpa, grandpa great and pops and never once met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jo, his brother Paul, sisters Nell, Elizabeth, and Bernadine.

Survivors include: sister Bernadette (Jack) Allen, daughter Patricia (Donald) Krueger and son Daniel Hermesmeyer all of Osawatomie.
