Flossie Launa Hines, 88, of Paola, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018.
Flossie was born March 13, 1930, to Jesse and Hattie McDougal Bartlett.
She married Victor Wayne Hines on Sept. 6, 1947, at the Bartlett family home. They enjoyed nearly 61 years of marriage. Their union produced six children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren: son Stephen (Gwen) Hines, Megan, Laura and Amy; daughter Jane Hines and Scott; son Philip (Kaye) Hines, Bob (Koreen) Hines, Nathan and Lana, Mindy (Tim) Snow, Sadie, Solomon and John Paul, April (Dustin) Richey, Cooper and Harper; daughter Christine Owens, Rachel Owens, Joel (Crystal) Owens, Riley, Eliza and Cecelia, Hannah (Frank) Mendoza, Amalia, Pepper, Frankie, Joaquin and Tomas, Joshua Owens and Rylinn; daughter Delores (Joel) Haines; and daughter Meredith (LZ) Drummond, Nathaniel, Cybil and Ian.
Flossie attended Osawatomie High School and got her GED many years later when she went to work at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She worked several years as a cook for Windy Acres, and she was the bookkeeper for her husband in his electrical business. Her most important job was helping raise her beloved grandchildren.
She was a member of Plum Creek United Methodist Church where she served as organist for over 50 years, and she served many years as the treasurer where she painstakingly kept her books down to the penny.
Flossie was a loving wife whose personality was the perfect complement to her husband’s. She was a grace-filled mother whose life pointed all her children to Christ. She was adored by all her grandchildren, and her example of self-sacrifice continues to influence their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor; a son, Philip; a daughter, Delores; and three brothers, Leonard, Wesley and Willis Bartlett. She is also survived by two sisters, Rozella Jordan and Raye Butler.
