Freddie(Fred) Leon Mann passed on March 3, 2018 at the Olathe Health Hospice Care. He was born December 1, 1949 to Edgar and Lois Mann. He was the fourth of seven children.
He was named after his grandfather, whom he loved to spend time with learning the piano and how to play cards. His grandmother Lottie would make him his favorite treat, iced graham crackers.
Fred went to school Osawatomie, KS. He and his cousin, John Koontz, represented the high school at a state tennis contest. He was part of the football team where in 1967, they went 13-0 and won the 3A State Championship. Fred graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1967.
Fred and his sister, Dixie loved to dance. They would enter dance competitions whenever possible and usually won.
Fred attended Fort Scott Community College and Findley Engineering College in Kansas City.
At 19, he lost all the fingers but the thumb on his right hand in an industrial accident while working at Air-O-Matics. He worked for the City of Osawatomie as a draftsman and meter reader. He was a security officer at the Osawatomie State Hospital. He worked in Pueblo, CO and Memphis, TN. He earned a degree as an Architectural Wood Work Estimator in Arlington, Virginia.
He never let the accident affect his work. Working with his dad, Corky and by himself, he created many beautiful works throughout the Miami County Area. There are homes, rooms and finished wood works all around the area that still display his eye for detail and precision craftsmanship. He was proud of his wood work.
Fred married and divorced Debbie Winslow.
He married and divorced Paula Davis. They had two sons. Jeremy Leon Mann was still born. Jason Michael Scherman Passed in 1994.
Fred and his companion Mary Elliott Fortner were blessed with three sons. Freddie Leon, Bobby Gene, and Snowlee Mann.
Fred’s hobbies were fishing, watching sports, reading, playing cards, and watching movies. He liked to enjoy nature and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Corky and Lois Mann, his brother Edgar Jr., sister Lou Ann, his companion Mary Fortner, and sons Jeremy, Jason and Snowlee.
Those surviving him are his companion Joyce Klawonn; his sisters Toni Vensor, Melinda Barnett, Denise Holloman; two sons Freddie Mann, Bobby Mann of DeSoto; step-daughter Jennifer Howell; step-son Jimmy Fortner; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
