Gary William Lewis

Gary William Lewis age 83 of Paola, KS passed away Monday September 18, 2023 at Vintage Park of Paola, KS.

Gary was born November 20, 1939 in Syracuse, NY. He was the eldest of five children born to Norman Thomas and Dorthey Lois (Dowd) Lewis. He grew up in Waterville, NY where he graduated with the Waterville High School class of 1957.

After high school, Gary enlisted into the United States Airforce. He was stationed in Madrid Spain. Then after 6 years, he was honorably discharged.

Gary went into the grocery business for 20 years in Paola, KS. He then went to work at Marley Cooling Tower in the security department for 13 years. In 2000, Gary went to work for North Point Skilled Nursing in the maintenance department for a few years. He retired in the early 2000’s.

In September of 1966, Gary and Sherry Joan Gorton were united in marriage in Waterville, NY. To this union came three children; Mark William, Michele Marie and Patrick William. They made their home in New York, until Sherry’s passing on April 8, 1970.

On October 10, 1981, Gary married Shirley Ann Secrest in Miami, OK. He gained three step children; Katherine Louise, Michael Dean and Cindy Sue.

In his spare time, Gary enjoyed listening to Elvis, putting together puzzles and model cars. He loved spending time with this family at the lake and during holiday’s. Gary and Shirley would travel to New York or Palm Springs, every other year to visit family.

Gary was a member of the American Legion Post 156 and the Fontana Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Sherry Lewis, his parents, brother Larry Lewis and step daughter Katherine Stark.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley of the home, children; Mark Lewis, Michele Boris, Patrick Gorton, Michael Secrest and Cindy Grizzle. Siblings; Jimmy Lewis, Donna Smith and Barb Hanover. Ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Along with other family and friends.
