George Alexander Eble Jr. age 93, of Osawatomie, Kansas died March 17, 2018 at Blackhawk Assisted Living in Spring Hill, KS.
George was born May 10, 1924 in Pratt, Kansas. He was the second of three born to George Alexander and Fern Erma (Hayne) Eble.
He grew up in Pratt and attended school there, graduating from Pratt High School with the class of 1943.
George was inducted in the United States Army on May 12, 1943 during WWII and served for 32 months in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 4, 1946, George married Helen Catherine Horn in Pratt, Kansas. George attended Kansas State University from 1946 until 1950 and earned a degree in Agriculture Administration. He taught the class, G.I. On the Farm Training for one year in LaCygne, KS, for the United States Military.
In 1952, George went to work for the United States Postal Service. In 1959 they moved to Miami County where they lived on a farm west of Paola, KS on old 68 hwy. George was a Railway Mail Clerk. He sorted mail and rode on the mail railcar from Kansas City, Missouri to Tucumcari, New Mexico for eighteen years. After he left the postal service, George was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad as a brakeman and conductor. He retired in 1985. At that time he and Helen moved to Eagle Rock, Missouri, where he enjoyed life on the shores of Table Rock Lake.
George was a farmer by heart and loved to farm. He was also a builder and enjoyed working with his hands. While the family lived on their farm in Paola he custom built a beautiful large fireplace with stones he gathered from his own land and a walnut mantle from a tree grown there. He was a member of the All Faith United Methodist Church in Eagle Rock and helped build their new sanctuary.
He was a former member of the Pratt, Kansas VFW, and a member of All Faith United Methodist Church.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Helen, his parents, his brother Ray Eble and his sister Jane (Eble) Switack.
He is survived by his sons: Roger (Debbie) Eble of Osawatomie, Bill (Kathy) Eble of Edgerton, KS grandchildren: Molly (Les) Jones of Paola, KS, Deric (Laura) Moore of Paola, KS, Toby (Spencer) Eble of Osawatomie, KS and Shane (Rachel) Eble of Williamsburg, VA, thirteen great grandchildren along with many other family members and friends.
