George Thomas Hadsall, 92, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 3, 1931 to Harry A. Hadsall and Mary (Tull) Hadsall in Osawatomie, Kansas, he lived a full life.
George was one of six children living in rural Miami County. Wilda Courtois, Jim Hadsall, Richard Hadsall preceded him in death; he is survived by sisters Mary Ann Maisch, and Linda Prothe. George graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1949 and was an active alumnus, regularly gathering with his classmates in the decades that followed their time in school together.
He wed the love of his life, Patricia (Husted) Hadsall, days after her high school graduation in May 1953. Married just one day shy of 68 years, they raised three children: Debbie Carson, Tom Hadsall, Carol (Dell) Yeamans. He was proud of their five grandchildren: Matt (Laura) Yeamans, Scott Hadsall, Jacob Hadsall, Josh (Rachelle) Yeamans, and Kristen (Ian) Hamilton. He was delighted with the addition of four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter: Noah (Lindsay) Yeamans, Seth Yeamans, Braddix Yeamans, Henry Hamilton and Clarke Hamilton.
George served in the Navy from 1949-1951 and was stationed at the Olathe Naval Base. Following his time with the Navy, he worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant and had an apprenticeship with Union Pacific Railroad. He was later hired as a machinist by Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked until his retirement. He remained active in his retirement, faithfully volunteering at the Shawnee Mission Hospital for more than 21 years. His service was recognized multiple times with volunteer accolades. He joyfully shared stories of the lasting friendships he formed while running his routes in the corridors.
George and Pat shared many activities together including the Osawatomie High School alumni reunions and parades for George’s class of 1949 and her class of 1953. They bowled in a league for many years with good friends while their three kids enjoyed the snack bar and learned how to keep score. Their fondest shared activity was dancing. They traveled as part of the Kansas Polka Club, sporting matching red vests. They enjoyed rural dances with live bands in Fontana, Garden City and Cadimus. A marvel to watch, they were a special couple on the dance floor, gliding as one unit as they waltzed and two-stepped. At home, Pat and George were avid gardeners. Other hobbies included working with stained glass and wood. He enjoyed “tinkering” in the garage on various woodworking projects, creating pens, mantle clocks, darts, and decorative pieces that Pat would paint. He would proudly share his handiwork with family and friends and local crafts shows.
Most importantly, he cherished time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to KC Hospice in memory of George and Patricia Hadsall.
