Helen Lourean "Rene" Brassfield age 97 of Olathe, KS died Friday February 9, 2018 at Good Samaritan Nursing home, Olathe, KS.

Rene was born August 4, 1920 in Pressonville, Kansas. She was the oldest of three children born to Kilby and Faye Marie (McCullough) Swearingen. She grew up in the Miami County area.

On January 28, 1939, Roy Edwin Brassfield and Rene were united in marriage in Paola, KS. Together they had two daughters Helen Irene and Judy Marie. They raised their daughters in Osawatomie.

Rene worked at the Sunflower plant during the war. Then at Mode O day clothing shop. In 1955, Rene went to Beauty college in Kansas City, Kansas and then opened a beauty shop in Osawatomie called LeFemme in 1956. She owned and operated the shop for 10 years until she closed it down to help take care of her parents.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy of 67 years. Her parent and two sisters Frieda Caylor and Pauline Bumgarner.

Survivors include her daughters Helen Fickel and husband Roger and Judy Milburn and husband Dale. Grandchildren Tracy Buchanan, Doug Milburn and Dana Gifford.  Great-grandchildren-Jamie Charlesworth, Sharaya Borjas, Mandy Soetaert, Joshua Milburn, Rachel Milburn, Jesse Copp, Rebekah Milburn and Jenny Buchanan; Great-great grandchildren-Amiah Borjas, Iliana Borjas, Cara Charlesworth, Gabriella, Jonathan and Joshua Socias.  Step grandchildren Roger Fickel Jr. and Crystal Waters; step great grandchildren-Jacob Fickel and Lyndsey Kuhnen; step great-great grandchild Silas Fickel.
