Hillery Allen Mcvey

Hillery Allen McVey, age 90, of Paola, KS, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 18, 1934, in Bush City, KS, the second of four children born to Alfred Allen and Genevieve T (Kerr) McVey. Hillery overcame early challenges, including contracting Polio, and went on to lead a diverse and industrious life. He pursued various professions, including body and fender work, barbering, car wash and dealership ownership, real estate, and property management. On December 24, 1953, Hillery married Betty Dozier, and together they had four children: Mitzi, Terry, Joe, and Janet. They made their home in Paola. After Betty's passing in 2003, Hillery found companionship with Nellie Haufle, with whom he spent many fulfilling years until her passing in 2020. Hillery was a devoted family man and a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Paola. Hillery is survived by his children: Mitzi (Mike, deceased) McCarty of Alma, AR, Terry (Kathy) McVey of Paola, KS, Janet (Dean) Becker of Colorado, Joe (Diane) McVey of Chiles, KS, and stepson Randy Schull (Jim, deceased) of Paola, KS.

Hillery is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jeremy McCarty, Jessalynn McCarty, Serena King, Amanda McVey, Jem McVey, Tim McVey, John McVey, Sheena Shakely, Rachel Becker, Stacy Winslow, and Andy Becker.  He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

Hillery was preceded in death by his wife Betty, companion Nellie Haufle, his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
