Joyce Alice Maxwell.... Age 81

Joyce Maxwell, age 81,  of Osawatomie, Kansas,  passed away on April 21, 2020 at her home.

Joyce was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 5, 1938.  She graduated from Fontana High School in May, 1956.

Joyce married her soulmate, James Maxwell on July 15, 1956 at her grand-parents home in Fontana, Kansas.  James and Joyce were married for 61 years.  They had 3 children, Jim, Joy & Janine.

Joyce is survived by her children, James (Jim) & Carol Maxwell, Joy Maxwell & Chris Rhodes, Janine & Mike Sullivan; grandchildren, Nikki & Scott Horne, Holly Maxwell & Chad Brown, Derek Maxwell & Thomas Wehmeier, TJ Hedges, Michael Atteberry, Jennifer Bradshaw, & Terry Stamper and many great-grandchildren.

Joyce is predeceased by her husband, James Maxwell, her parents, Lawrence & Nona Green, brothers, Benny Green and Leon Green.

Joyce worked as a Certified Nurses Aide in the OB department at the Paola Hospital.  She then worked as a bookkeeper at the local lumber yard.  During this time, she took EMT courses and worked as a volunteer EMT for the Osawatomie ambulance service.  She, then, started her own donut business.  After this she went back to the lumber yard and retired from this job.  She also worked part-time after retirement in the cafeteria at a grade school in Paola.  She enjoyed helping others and was kind to everyone.

She enjoyed many hobbies during her life.  She loved spending time with her family, and loved her animals.  She also enjoyed camping and traveling, renovating old trunks, crocheting, and reading. She supported the local fire department by providing food and drinks when needed.

The family will have a small graveside service at the Cadmus Cemetary at a later date.
