In school she played the alto saxophone, was a member of the cheerleading squad and Kayettes, and participated in volleyball and track. After school you could find her cruising 6 th & Main and hanging out with her friends.
In high school she met Kevin Colbert. Shortly after high school they had a son, Ryan Anthony Dever, on June 19, 1984. Sadly, he passed away on October 27, 1984.
After Ryan’s passing, Kevin enlisted in the Army in February of 1985. Between basic training and transferring to his regular duty station, Kevin and Karen were wed on May 17, 1985. Before returning home, they welcomed their first daughter, Brianne Nicole, on February 1, 1988, at Madigan Army Medical Center.
Upon completion of his service with the military, the young couple returned to Osawatomie, KS to put down their roots. They had three more children: Anthony Alexander, born May 11, 1990. Abbey Elise, born September 12, 1993. And Kacie Dierra, born December 9, 1994.
Given her big family, she developed into an amazing cook. She was always trying new recipes or figuring out how to prepare whatever Kevin brought home from his latest hunt. During the summers, softball games were her favorite place to be. She was the team’s biggest supporter and fiercely encouraged all the girls.
