Katherine Farrer peacefully passed away with her family by her side at North Point Nursing

Home in Paola Kansas on June 2nd, 2019 following complications from a lengthy battle with diabetes and dementia.

Katherine was the 4th child born to Walter Leo and Euzell (Woodward) Farrer on March 31, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Katherine grew up in Provo and after high school she attended LDS Business College.

After college Katherine found her passion serving the mentally ill adolescents at Utah State Hospital for more than 20 years. Katherine ultimately decided to return to college to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a nurse.

After one semester at BYU Provo she was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Nashville, TN area from 1988-89. She loved her mission and serving the church in different callings and capacities throughout her life.

After returning from her mission she moved to Idaho to attend Idaho State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Science and Nursing in 1993. She continued to flourish in the psychiatric field after graduating and worked at Blackfoot State Hospital until her move to Kansas in 1996. She finished out her career at Osawatomie State Hospital retiring in 2004 after a catastrophic work injury. Katherine was nominated in 2016 for the “Distinguished Citizen Award” in recognition of her outstanding service and citizenship throughout her life to her community.

During her retirement Katherine enjoyed spending time with her Daughter Kathy Dee, 3 grandchildren Cindy (James) Fortner, Renesha Prasko, and Victoria Prasko and her 8 great-grandchildren Addison, Phoebe, Kristopher, Emma, Jasper, Trystan, Hadleigh-Jo, and Cooper. She is preceded in death by her Mom and Dad Euzell and Walter Farrer and 1 brother Robert C. Farrer. She survived by two brothers Walter Mark (Elaine) and John Earnest (Gina) Farrer, 2 sisters Barbara Euzell (Floyd) McCasland and Patricia (John David) Morris and her sister-in-law Jo-Ann (Robert) Farrer. She will be missed immensely by all who knew her.
