Larry Eugene "Gilly" Gilpatrick age 75 of Osawatomie, KS died peacefully in his sleep August 10, 2017.
Larry was born January 7, 1942 in Gentry County, Missouri. He was the ninth of ten children born to Edgar M. and Martha Cecil (Houtz) Gillpatrick. He attended school in St. Joseph, Missouri until the 8 th grade.
He then moved to Albany, MO with his sister and brother-in-law and started working on a farm. Among other things, Larry drove a truck for the wheat farmers. Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and served honorably for four years.
On November 18, 1965, Larry and Flora Marie Bruns were united in marriage in St. Joe, MO. He not only gained a wife but also gained three children: Tammy, Daren, and Bret. They were blessed with four more children: Regina, Larry Jr. "Butch", Rachel and Sarah. In the earlier years, they made their home in various places in Kansas City. In 1982, the family moved to Louisburg, Kansas where they continued to grow with the addition of several grandchildren. The marriage later disolved in 2003.
Over the years, Gilly was an extremely hard working man and proud of it. He was in the construction business most of his life, starting as a painter until he moved to Louisburg and then went to road construction. Around 1999, Gilly started remodeling houses and doing more carpentry work for himself. After 40 years in the construction business he retired.
Gilly was always willing to give his time to help out anyone that needed it. He was generous to a fault. He loved to play cards, joker poker, and horseshoes. He also loved to hunt, fish, smoke meat, fry mountain oysters, and compete in tractor pulls. He enjoyed old westerns, hanging out with friends and family, drinking a cold beer, and loved having a good time. When walking into a room, Gilly had a presence about him. He had a smile that lit up the room and a laugh that could be heard from the parking lot. He was highly respected because you knew where he stood and he never backed down. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0250 in Louisburg and the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s Post #2700 in Ottawa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his father figure (brother-in-law) "Wicker" Bill Hill, brothers Lloyd, Kenneth, Andrew Charles (AC), and Gerald Gilpatrick. Sisters, Leola Sexton, Virginia Hill, Barbara Ann Gilpatrick and a grandson Jamie Daren Fowler.
Survivors include his children: Tammy (Jim) Fowler, Daren (Shannon) Moon, Bret (Deb)Moon, Regina (Allen) Hudson, Larry Jr. (Bonnie) Gilpatrick, Rachel Foster, and Sarah (Steve) Ellington, ex-wife Flora Gilpatrick, 16 grandchildren;, 4 great grandchildren; brother Bob (Sandra) Gillpatrick, and sister Betty Duncan. Along with other extended family and friends.
