Osawatomie

Larry Eugene Richardson, 76, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Larry, the son of Stephen Benonia "Ben" and Gladys Viola (McCartney) Richardson, was born on April 12, 1948 in McCook, Nebraska. He was very proud to have come from a large and loving family as the youngest of nine children.

Larry graduated from Garden City High School in 1967 where he took 2nd place in the state championship for wrestling. He was also a member of FFA all 4 years of high school stemming from his love of working on the farm with his dad.

Following graduation, Larry worked on his oldest brother Dean's farm in McDonald, Kansas. It was there that he met Marjorie Kay Cahoj. They fell in love and were united in marriage on February 5, 1972 in McCook, Nebraska. They were each other's love of their lives. McCook is where they started their family. For a short period of time they lived in Bailey, Colorado where Larry enjoyed working construction with his brother Don. In 1985 they moved to Olathe, Ks where they owned a Winchell's Donut franchise. It was a family affair that resulted in wonderful memories. Larry was known by all as being a big hearted, hard working man who was skilled in so many areas. He was a farmer, mechanic, construction worker, baker, and truck driver. Larry retired from Century Concrete in 2018 with 33 years of service. Throughout his years there, he worked alongside his son, Larry; his son-in-law, David Grimes; his father-in-law, Bob Grimm; his sister-in-law, Niceta Farber; and brother-in-law, James Cahoj as well as formed many lifelong friendships.

In his younger days Larry had a 1967 Blue Chevelle before owning a 1970 Plum Crazy Dodge Super Bee. He also had a 1962 Harley Davidson Sprint. Needless to say, he liked to go fast, but not reckless, and he was the coolest uncle to his many nieces and nephews! He drove in many demolition derbies in Nebraska and Kansas with his brother, Delmar, winning numerous trophies. Larry also enjoyed playing the harmonica with his dad and brothers and nephew, Kim, as well as hunting deer and elk with them. He loved boating, fishing, and camping with all of his family throughout his life. After retirement, spending time with family and working around their country home, near Osawatomie, Kansas, was a great source of joy for him. He was famous for his Sunday morning pancakes and would always make them for Christmas morning breakfast. During football season, if the Chiefs were playing, cheering them on was a family tradition!

Larry will be remembered as an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family well. His smile was full of warmth and his legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on forever in the hearts and memories of those that knew and loved him.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marjorie; their children Pamela Dawn Grimes (David) of Topeka, Ks, Larry Edward Richardson of Osawatomie, Ks, and Kenneth Eugene Richardson (Cassy) of Osawatomie, Ks; their grandchildren Kiley Zweig (Zach), Kayla Grimes, Austin Grimes, Nicholas Grimes, Alex Frischer, Ashley Richardson, Tyler Richardson, and Liam Richardson; their great-grandchildren Olivia Smith, Ryan Smith, Lily Zweig, and Eliza Grimes; his siblings Don Richardson (Jan), Delores Swaney (Jr.), Darlene Yarbrough, and Joy Richardson; Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Bob and Marjorie Grimm, brothers-in-law Phil Cahoj (Waynita), Kenneth Cahoj (Joyce), Joe Cahoj (Terri), John Cahoj (Michelle), James Cahoj (Kendal), Edward Cahoj (Iris), Harold Hartzog; sisters-in-law Sheila Geist (Joe), Niceta Farber (Randy), and Janelle Cahoj; and treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
