Leonard Eugene Oberheide age 81 of Louisburg, KS, formerly of Block, KS, died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Olathe Medical Center.

Leonard was born February 10, 1937 in Kansas City, MO. He was the youngest of four and the only son born to Herman Claus and Lena Christina (Kettler) Oberheide. He grew up in Block and attended Trinity Lutheran School. He graduated from Paola High School.

He was a farmer thru and thru. Leonard grew up farming with his dad and then when he was old enough he farmed on his own. He had cattle and grew crops. Leonard was blessed with two daughters Leann and Lori Lee.

Leonard loved his pets. He had dogs and even squirrels over the years would come and sit on his shoulders. Leonard loved to get a rise out of the grandkids by teasing the chickens.  He had perfected the cry of a hawk and the chickens would look this way and that way, and the grandkids thought this was hilarious.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Leann Oberheide and Lori Lee (Oberheide) Reichard, son-in-law Joel Runnells, his parents, one sister Adeline Richards and three brother in-law Earl Lancaster, Norman McKinney and Bill Richards.

Survivors include companion and best friend Jo Smith, step-son Terry Patterson, Son-in-law Duane Reichard of Rantoul, KS, sisters Alvera Lancaster of Parkville, MO and Dorothy McKinney of Amarillo, TX, Three grandchildren Rachel (Brian) Mersman of Osawatomie, KS, Angerla Runnells of Ottawa, KS and Kathryn Runnells of Dallas, TX and four great grandchildren Olivia Runnells, Callie Mersman, Austin Mersman and Abigail Mersman. Along with other family and friends.

Visitation 2-3 pm followed by service at 3 pm at July 28, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 34868 Block Rd, Paola, KS 66071. Burial of Ashes to follow. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church and may be sent c/o Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home P.O. Box 430 Osawatomie, KS 66064.
