Martha Lou Walker Hoffman... Age 90

Martha Lou Walker Hoffman, age 91, of Fairway, KS, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Trustwell Living at Mission Springs.

Martha was born October 5, 1931, in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was the only child born to Abraham and Bernice (Mattson) Walker. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1949.

After high school, Martha attended Baker University and was a member of the Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After graduating from Baker in 1954, she attended Saint Luke’s School of Nursing and received her nursing degree in 1956.

After graduating from nursing school, Martha taught at the KU School of Nursing for two years. She then returned to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she spent 35 years working as an evening supervisor, admitting nurse, and utilization review nurse before retiring in 1993.

On April 21, 1957, Martha and Ronald A. Hoffman were united in marriage in Osawatomie, Kansas. To this union came three sons, Steve W., J. Stuart, and J. Scott. The family made their home in Fairway, KS.

Martha was a member of the Osawatomie Alumni Association, St. Luke’s School of Nursing alumni, and active in the Alpha Chi Omega Mu Mu Alumnae Chapter.

Her parents, Abe and Bernice Walker, and her husband, Ronald Hoffman, preceded her death.

Survivors include her three sons Steven (Beverly) Hoffman of Lee Summit, MO, J. Stuart (Anne) Hoffman of Fairway, KS, and J. Scott (Catherine) Hoffman of Shawnee, KS. Five grandchildren; Wesley (Jessica) Hoffman, Meghan Hoffman, Riley Hoffman, Parker Hoffman, and Griffith Hoffman. Three great-grandchildren; Layke (Becca), Chloe, and Addison, and two great great grandchildren, Kayde and Kohen.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, October 5, at 10:00 a.m. at the Osawatomie Cemetery. A Memorial Service will occur on Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. at Country Club Christian Church, 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO.
