Mary “Evelyn” Schlesener age 97 of Osawatomie, KS died Saturday February 17, 2018 at North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola, KS.

Mary “Evelyn” Dunn was born February 7, 1921 in a foundling home in St. Louis, MO. She was adopted at the age of 6 month by Levi and Lillie Dunn. After Lillie’s death in 1922, she was placed in foster care with C.A. and Mary J. Harper of Zebra, MO. She graduated from Linn Creek, MO.

She met and corresponded with Harold Woolsey until they married on February 19, 1942.  Harold and Evelyn had three children. Harold farmed in the Parker Community and Evelyn worked at Mode O Day sewing factory until the Osawatomie factory closed. She later worked in housekeeping at the Miami County Hospital.

Evelyn was married to Paul Singer for a short time and in 1978 she married Clem Schlesener. They traveled and enjoyed dancing at the Place Mart until Clem’s death in 1991. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting and needle work. She was an amazing seamstress and would make all her own clothing. Evelyn loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Osawatomie.

A recent DNA test revealed her biological father’s family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in June 1972, and her son, Marvin, in August 1972. Also preceding her was four half-siblings and her biological father, Robert L. Morgan Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice (Wayne) Long of Parker, and Esther (Ed Pressnell) Claphan of Augusta, KS. Six grandchildren Lynn (Jeff Look) Hauschel, Lisa (Dave Hoskins) Houghton, Lori (Ken) Vetter, LouAnne( Doug) Wright, Michele Garris and Barry (Dallas Krueger) Baker, sixteen great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. A niece Phyllis (Roger) Benedict, and two nephews, Shannon Woolsey and Steve (Jeanne) Woolsey. Five half-siblings and other nieces and nephews.
