Mary Louise "Lucy" Leslie... Age 82

“Lucy” will be cremated and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mary Louise “Lucy” Leslie, age 81 of Olathe, KS formerly of Osawatomie, KS went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday August 15, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. She was a resident at, Villa St. Francis Nursing Home in Olathe, KS.

Lucy was born October 28, 1936 in Edgerton, KS. She was the 3rd of 9 children born to Ernest William “Bunt” and Helen Elizabeth Gillihan-Larrick. Lucy grew up in Edgerton where she attended school. She graduated with the Edgerton High School Class of 1954.

After high school, Lucy went to work for Kraft Foods in Kansas City MO.  On June 26, 1955, she married Clifford Otto“Tiny” Dempsay, at Methodist Church in Edgerton KS., with their reception following at the Larrick family farm.  The couple made their home in Rantoul KS. Together they had three sons, Roger, DeWayne and Daryl. The marriage later ended in divorce.

On April 20, 1974, she married JC Leslie. They made their home at Smithville MO.

Lucy later became a Social Worker for various nursing homes such as Life Care Center of Osawatomie, and Del Mar Gardens of Olathe.  Lucy retired around 2003.

Her hobbies include arts & crafts, calligraphy, oil painting and flower arrangements. Lucy loved helping people. She especially loved her family and spending time with them. Lucy was very devoted to the Lord. She did daily devotionals and her faith ran deep.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Ernest “Bunt” and Helen Larrick,  one son Daryl Dempsay; four sisters, Betty Hundley, Joann Boggs, Nancy Eckard and Judy Stitt; one brother Ernie Larrick.

Survivors include sons Roger Dempsay of Darrouzett, TX and DeWayne Dempsay of Osawatomie, KS; Nine grandchildren Vanessa Creed of LaVerne, OK, Heather Dempsay of Burlington, KS, Melissa Garms of Ottawa, KS, Lori Jones of Cimmaron, KS, Russell Dempsay of Burlington, KS, Lindsey Dempsay of Kansas City, KS, Cherish Burton of Louisburg, KS, Sarah Dempsay of Osawatomie, KS and Mariah Dempsay of Eureka, MT ; one grandson in law Travis Garms of Ottawa, KS; eleven  great- grandchildren; three sisters Floy Curry of Edgerton, KS, Tula Gillespie of Edgerton, KS and Bonnie Ward of Paola KS; two brother in-laws, Harold Boggs, Larry Stitt, and one sister-in-law LaVersa Larrick, along with other family and friends.
