Myrtle Marie Hay age 97 of Osawatomie, KS died Tuesday July 16, 2019 at Lifecare Center of Osawatomie.
Myrtle was born January 26, 1922 in Augusta, KS. She was the third of four children born to Daniel Ferguson and Ida May (McCollom) Timblin. She grew up and attended school in Chester, Oklahoma.
After school, Myrtle traveled to Lane with her father who was the minister of the Spring Grove Church and that is where she met Charles Eldon Hay Jr. They were married on December 2, 1945 in Lane, KS. Together the couple had three children, Deloris Jean, Janice and Dennis “Joe”.
Myrtle raised her children and was a house wife her whole life. Charlie and Myrtle lived in Lane on a salvage yard that Charlie ran until 2004 when their house burnt down. Myrtle and Charlie then moved to Osawatomie.
In her spare time, Myrtle enjoyed staying at home and embroidering dish towels. She listened to hymns and Billy Graham. When she was younger, she had a garden and would help on the farm milking cows. Myrtle enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches and reading. Charlie and Myrtle would go to the local café’s and enjoy breakfast, coffee and visiting with their friends. Myrtle attended the Nazarene Church in Osawatomie.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Charlie, her daughter Deloris Jean, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include daughter Janice Cherry of the home and son Dennis “Joe” (Darlene) Hay of Lane, KS. Three grandchildren Sandy (Bryan) Shippy, Jimmy (Christi) Hay and Kevin (Tammy) Cherry. Eight great grandchildren Garnet, Candy, Lindsay, Landen, Brianna, Lily, Lawson and Lucy, three great great grandchildren Gabriel, Aiden and James. Along with other family and friends.
