Norma Lee Hermreck, 90, of Osawatomie, Kansas passed away on May 19, 2017.  She was a resident of Vintage Park.  Norma recently enjoyed a big birthday celebration with family and friends and a wonderful Mother’s Day.

She was born April 6, 1927 to Miles and Velma Tyler in Garnett, Kansas. She had a twin sister, Wilma Dee (Tyler) Page.  The twins had a strong bond throughout the years.  Norma and Wilma’s brothers were Gene (Bud) and Tommy Tyler.

Norma married William (Bill) Hermreck April 19, 1951.  They lived in Garnett, Kansas before establishing their family home in Osawatomie with three children Susan Kay Troxel, LuAnn, and Mike Hermreck.  Norma and Bill were active parents participating in school activities, Brownies, Girl Scouts, dance lessons, school and community sports, and an active church life at the First Presbyterian Church.  They frequently visited friends and family for fun evenings and made the trip to Garnett for family dinners most Sundays after church. Norma loved family vacations and trips later in life with friends and visits to see Mike in California and Susan and Kelly and their children, Matt and Jenny, in Florida.

Norma always enjoyed working in retail and Bill and Norma purchased The Shoe Box shoe store in downtown Osawatomie.  Norma ran the store for twelve years and loved selecting (and selling) the shoes. She enjoyed being in a bustling downtown with neighbors and friends who were business owners at the same time.  A favorite day for Norma at The Shoebox was the summer Sidewalk Sale.

Norma’s life was active with her interests in sewing, antiques, ceramics, quilting, and canning fresh fruits and vegetables. The family often gathered for canning marathons at Aunt Ruth and Uncle Harold Zwiener’s house in Garnett. Norma and Bill enjoyed going to the Elks and became very involved in the local V.F.W.  Norma also loved time with Bill and the family at the “cabin” near Timberlake and at the lake visiting friends.  Norma became a sports fan with Sunday football, trips to Chiefs games, and support for Kansas basketball.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her parents and siblings. Norma is survived by her children Susan and Kelly Troxel, LuAnn, Mike, grandchildren Jennifer Troxel Clough and her husband Chris, Matt Troxel, and great-grandchildren Lily Peoples and Chris Clough.  Norma loved her time with family and gatherings of any kind.  She will be greatly missed.
