Normalee Webster, age 92 of Olathe, KS., formerly of Osawatomie KS, died February 4, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Olathe KS.
Normalee arrived November 6, 1931 in University Park, IA to Roy Parker Glendening and Lela Sophia (Bennington) Glendening residing in University Park, IA. Normalee was the 7th daughter of 8, and was schooled in IA, KS and Colorado. She settled in Wichita KS, where she met Glenn “Fritz” Webster, fresh from the Air Force/Korean War. They were married on October 26, 1954, in Wichita by Normalee’s Father in a family friends home. Glenn (Fritz), who died in December 2020, and Normalee were married for 66 years. They lived in Wichita (50’s& 60’s), Osawatomie (60’s-80’s), Denver (80’s), and back to Lane KS and Osawatomie area in the late 90’s.
Starting in 2007, Normalee moved to the Kansas City area living in apartments to be close to family & medical care. Normalee lived close to family most of her life, but medical issues ultimately required a move to nursing home care. During their time in Osawatomie, they owned and operated Nu-Way Cleaners from 1965 to the mid 1980’s. Normalee while in Denver worked in alterations at various businesses, including Jacobson’s and high-end dress shops. She also worked at Kuppenheimer Menswear, where she was able to meet John Elway of Denver Broncos. Forever her favorite football player. She assisted pageant participants in fitting their gowns and attire, including Miss Colorado. She altered and beaded many wedding and prom dresses and made many bridesmaid dresses.
Our memories are filled with family gatherings in Missouri and Kansas, camping at various lakes, streams when we were younger and attending all the sports activities of Osawatomie, colleges and even a KC Chief game back in 1972(was very cold!). In addition, she made homemade suits, dresses, and other clothing that demonstrated her talent in sewing. Normalee lived a long and eventful life, enjoying her grandchildren’s pursuits and 2 great grandchildren. She travelled internationally to China, Argentina, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mexico. She (and Fritz) took the grandchildren to Disney World in 1997 and found out how chasing 5 young (under 9) kids can be a bit tiring but great memory. She also snow-skied while in Denver in late 70’s, along with Fritz and family.
Glenn and her parents along with her 7 sisters have all preceded her in death. We want to thank all who took care of Mom, at the Good Samaritan Home and her doctors who over the years did all they could to make Mom comfortable and able to maximize her enjoyment of these latter years. Normalee leaves behind 3 children Randall (Sara) Webster of Indian River Shores, FL; Glenda Johnston of Lane, KS; and Deanna (Scott) Hafford of Kansas City, KS. Five grandchildren – Melissa (Aaron) Helfand, Fairfax VA; Melanie (Daniel) Chavis, Denver CO; Megan (Daniel) Maddock, Tampa FL.; Clint Johnston of Lane KS; Nicole (Wes) Fossett, Lane KS; and 2 great-grandchildren, Lila Rose Helfand and most recent, Roy Daniel Fossett. Normalee is survived by numerous nieces, nephews as well, who were close to her heart.
Normalee’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service July 20, 11 AM at Osawatomie Cemetery. Mom is now looking at the mountains and smiling - at peace. If you wish to donate, we suggest Olathe Hospital Hospice or any charity of your choice.
