Penelope Beth Werkowitch age 63 of Osawatomie, KS died Monday October 14, 2019 at Olathe Hospice House.

Penny was born October 28, 1955 in Chicago, IL. She was the youngest of five born to James Edwin and Hazel Margaret (Rodenberg) Cagwin. She grew up in Shawnee, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1973.

After high school, Penny attended Brighton Community College and graduated with an Associates in Medical Assistance. Penny had her son Caleb and they moved back to Shawnee. Then she met Michael Werkowitch. They were married November 14, 1987 in Shawnee, KS. The couple had two daughters Jamie and Julie. The family made their home in Black Swan Estates in Shawnee. In 2008 they moved to their home in rural Osawatomie. Penny worked at local banks in Shawnee and then opened her own daycare. Then in 1997, she went to work at UPS as a sorter. Penny worked at UPS for 20 years until retiring in 2017.

Penny loved horses. The family traveled and enjoyed camping. Penny loved going to the lake. How many people did you touch with your kind, loving, optimistic heart and soul? Can we even count that high? People we haven’t spoke to in years, people who only met you once or twice, have let us know how much they enjoyed your company. Three of us are lucky enough to call you mom. But so many more call you their second mom, second daughter, friend, sister, horse friend, cousin, Penelope, Penelle, Aunt Grandma Penny, Crazy Aunt Penny, Grandma, and Mama Quarter - because you’re worth so much more than a penny. Those who were “just” friends weren’t just friends. You made them feel like your family. How did you have so much love to give? and still more to share with the next stranger you met? I have so many more questions for you and I hate that I can’t ask them. I hate that you can’t answer them. We have so many more adventures to go on. We have so many more scenic routes to take.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother James & Hazel Cagwin, father- and mother-in-law, Stephen and Helen Werkowitch.

Survivors: Husband Mike Werkowitch, son Caleb and wife Sarah Cook, daughters Jamie and Julie Werkowitch, brother Bill and wife Solveig "Flip," brother Mike and wife Debbie, sister Mary and husband Roger Bruning, sister Pam and husband Vic Guadagno, grandsons Cody and Ty Cook, sisters-in-law Steph Stahl and Jeanne Worden, numerous and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends
