Rose Marie Harris age 68 of Topeka, KS passed Monday November 22, 2021 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.
Rose was born March 27, 1953 in Osawatomie, KS. She was the seventh of nine children born to Olden and Lonnie Lee (Gibson) Harris. Rose attended school in Osawatomie until she completed the 7 th grade and then she moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with her sister Velma who took her in and cared for her as her own daughter.
At a young age, Rose was nicknamed “Hellcat Rose” and she lived up to her nickname. Rose loved cooking and was very good at it. She could cook, bake, fry or whatever was needed. Her specialties were hot water corn bread, sweet potato pie and dressing. Rose was the life of the party and she lived life to the fullest. Her favorite things to do was spending time with her family and living for her grandbabies. Rose liked riding down the highway with Curtis, Harry and Velma whenever she could. She absolutely loved going to the Arkansas Reunions to reunite with other family members. Rose had a special love for her nieces and nephews and would do anything for them as they would for her. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. Growing up in Osawatomie, Rose ran with a crew of gals called the Four Horsemen. Who remained lifelong friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Olden Harris Jr. and James Harris, twin brother Roosevelt Harris, sister Freddie Mae Winton and grandchild N’Torrial V’Shawn Lucas.
Survivors include daughters; Kathryn Denise Harris-Turner and Takisha Rene Horton-Lucas and a special son in law Damien “Otis” Lucas all of Topeka, KS, grandchildren; Michelle Lee Harris, T’Keyah Marie Lynne Lucas, T’Karah Lonnie Anne Lucas and K’Torrah Rose lee Lucas and two great grandchildren Jeremiah Jaylin Lindsey and Naaliya Amiyah Payne, brothers Theodis Harris of Kansas City, MO, Louis E. Gibson of California, sisters; Velma Harris-Jones of Chicago, IL and Vivian “Peggy” Fleming-Conner of El Paso, TX. Along with other family and friends.
