Russe ll Dean Richards age 76 of Paola, KS died January 8, 2018 at Olathe Hospice House.

Russell wa s born October 5, 1941 in Jefferson City, MO. He was one of five children born to Amos Joseph and Minnie Leona (Sivils) Richards..

Russell served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in March of 1967. Russell met Patricia Dale Shandy and they were uni ted in marriage on July 15, 1968 in DeSoto, KS. Together the couple had two daughters Lesa and Shelly.

Russell worked for Jacobson metal factory in Olathe, KS. He lost two fingers in an accident at the plant. Later, Russell, Pat and their family moved to Tennessee where they lived on a farm. After 4 or 5 years the family returned to Kansas and Russell worked with his longtime friend, Ray Kopaska at Ramaroko Battery until his retirement in early 2000.

His hobbies were making mountain man style crafts, camping and deer hunting. He was a member of the Model A club in DeSoto. He owned a 1929 Model A and won trophies and awards in numerous car shows.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia of 40 years (who lost her battle to cancer in 2008), his parents, Amos Joseph and Minnie Richards, brother Clyde Richards and sister Helen Oliphant, both of Missouri.

Survivors include two daughters Lesa (Larry) Cole of Iola, KS and Shelly (Justin) Carver of Hampton, VA., step-son Rodney (Betty) Titus of Maryville, MO, Five grandchildren Samantha Cole, Matthue Cole, Caitlyn (Blake) Parks, Cassie Titus and Kealey Titus and several great grandchildren. A Brother Walter (Linda) Richards and sister Wanda Richards-Lennox both of Ten nessee and his companion “puppy dog” Izzy who always kept Russell company. Along with other family and friends.
