Sandra Sue “Sandy” McKinney age 65 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Sunday October 29, 2017 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas.
Sandy was born August 15, 1952 in Paola, Kansas. She was the fourth of eight children born to Harvey William & Freda Darleen (Boydston) Schlesener. Sandy grew up and attended school at Cass-Midway. She did not graduate but earned her GED in the later years.
In 1970, Sandy married Rolla McKinney in Osawatomie, Kansas. Together they had three sons Keith, Kevin and Kenneth. The family made their home in Osawatomie until 1974 when they bought a farm in Beagle, Kansas. They lived in Beagle for 17 years then moved to LaCygne. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Sandy spent most of her life as a homemaker. She raised three boys and kept house. When the boys were grown she held odds and end jobs to occupy her time. When she wasn’t working you could find Sandy watching John Wayne movies and listening to Elvis. She loved horses and her dog Misty Dawn. When the boys were growing up, Sandy would cook and crochet.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her sons Keith (Michelle) McKinney of Paola, KS, Kevin McKinney of Lane, KS and Kenneth (Kim) McKinney of Paola, KS. Four brothers Gary Schlesener of Osawatomie, KS, David (Rita) Schlesener of Paola, KS, Rick (Jackie) Schlesener of Mound City, KS, and Randy (Patty) Schlesener of Fayette Ville, AR. Three sisters Lori (Dennis) Martin of Osawatomie, KS, Janie (Terry) Sanders of LaLoop, KS, and Shannon (Dave) Sams of Parker, KS. Six grandchildren Alyshia (Jasper) Needham, Dylan (Halie) McKinney, Lane McKinney, Harley McKinney, Tyler McKinney and Garrett McKinney and Two great grandchildren Kemper Needham and Kayceigh McKinney. Along with many nieces, nephews and other family.
