It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Sharon Lynne Eddy on Jun 29, 2024.
Sharon was born on August 7, 1962 in Kansas City, MO to Bill and Janet Eddy. She attended Broken Arrow Elementary, South Junior High and Lawrence High School, while growing up in Lawrence, Kansas. Sharon excelled as a swimmer during her childhood and even competed in the Junior Olympics. Her time as a Lawrence High cheerleader set the stage for her lifetime of being a cheerleader for those around her.
During high school, Sharon spent summers as a camp counselor and participated in an Outward Bound program that solidified her connection to the outdoors. Throughout her life, Sharon remained an avid skier, fisherman, golfer and hiker. While attending the University of Kansas, Sharon became a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and studied Interior Design. Later, she was inspired to combine her passion for the mountains with her drive to serve others. In 1985, after receiving her BS in Education with a minor in Recreational Therapy, Sharon performed an internship with Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center to work with handicapped skiers and her love of the mountains was cemented. Sharon moved to Frisco, CO and continued her work with the physically challenged for the next seven years.
While in Colorado, Sharon interned with the Veterans Administration in Grand Junction. This opened the door to a position as a recreational therapist with the Veterans Administration in Leavenworth, KS. In 1994, Sharon moved back home to the Kansas City area and began her career at the VA. Her infectious enthusiasm and energy placed her squarely in the heart of patients, staff and coworkers. She is fondly remembered by the hundreds of veterans whose lives she impacted. In addition to daily activities, Sharon organized golf tournaments, chaperoned athletes to the National Wheelchair Games, hosted countless games, matches and tournaments for her veterans. She retired from the VA in 2020.
Sharon was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth and her parents, Bill and Jan, whom she tirelessly cared for. Survivors include her brother, Steve Eddy and wife Melissa, nephew Jack, niece Mary Beth, uncle David Forsell, wife Sheri and cousins Kristin and Eric. And the most recent addition to her family; her four-legged son, Max.
Throughout her life, Sharon was devoted to the joy of others - friends, family and strangers alike - always organizing, connecting, laughing with and loving others. She cherished her family and multitude of close friends. She will be tremendously missed by all who knew her.
