Shirley Ann Erikson age 86 of Osawatomie died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Olathe Hospice House.


Shirley Ann Erickson was born on July 11, 1931 in Osawatomie, Kansas to John Henry and Roxie Emma Steva Erickson.

She attended Osawatomie schools and was graduated in the class of 1949 in Osawatomie High School.

After graduating from William Jewel College, Liberty, Missouri with an AB degree in 1953 she went to Baker University, Baldwin, Kansas and was Assistant to Dean B.A. Gessner for 18 years. She returned to Osawatomie where she worked at the Osawatomie Graphic for 26 years for Web and Gladys Hawkins.

For 11 years she was treasurer of the Osawatomie Public Library Board and was involved in making the new building possible in 1980.

After retiring she began doing genealogy for herself and friends. She went on many travels with her mother and friends and spend one summer in Europe.

Being a person who liked to do research she wrote for the new Osawatomie Journal with a column Down Through the Years for 3 years and the Osawatomie Graphic The Time Capsule.

Being interested in the Osawatomie High School Alumni Association, she served as treasurer for 13 years and her class secretary since 1976. In 2010 she and two classmates Marge Whetstone Brown, class of 1949, and Ray Borden, class of 1950, started a fund for a new sound system in the Osawatomie High School gym. The project was completed in time for the 2010 alumni reunion. For all of their work on the project each of them were presented a plaque, “In appreciation for your dedication, time and hard work in making your vision come true” Osawatomie High School Class of 1949.  She and Marge were both named “Outstanding Alumnus of Osawatomie High School 2010.

She was a Baptist. Memberships included Kansas State Historical Society, Miami County Historical/Genealogy Society, Marais De Cygnes Chapter of Daughters of Revolution, 60 year member of Perfection Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, American Association of University Women and Osawatomie High School Alumni Association. For the Marais Des Chapter she compiled books of the Santa Fe Trail Markers and Madonna of the Trails.  Copies of these were given to the Louisburg, Paola and Osawatomie libraries. Copies of the books are in the National Society of American Revolution, NSDAE Archives in Washington DC.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Eddy G. Erickson.
