Shirley Dean Kilbourn age 83 of Osawatomie, KS died Tuesday January 8, 2019 at St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, KS.

Shirley was born December 24, 1935 in Columbia, MO to Claude William and Opal (Cleek) Weldon. She was preceded in birth by her older sisters, Dorothy and Christine. Shirley’s mother passed when she was two years old and she was raised by her mother Lena Weldon where she gained two younger siblings, Wanda and Sonny. Shirley attended school at Columbia High School graduating in 1953.

After high school, Shirley went to Florida with her sister, Dorothy, where she attended college. She earned her degree in business. She then moved back to Columbia, where she met Ralph Kilbourn.

On December 7, 1957, Shirley and Ralph here united in marriage. They made their home in Independence, MO. Together the couple had three children Melvin, Kevin and Pamela. They moved to Osawatomie in 1959.

Shirley worked for the First National Bank in Osawatomie as a teller. She, then, went to work in the Miami County Treasurers Department. Shirley worked for Miami County until 1995 when she retired.

Her hobbies included crocheting, fishing and camping. She loved animals and often took in strays. Shirley loved to cook, especially her family Thanksgiving dinners with her homemade pies. She loved having fish fry’s with her friends. Ralph and Shirley had a cabin near Burlington, KS and enjoyed the Wallace Cabin in Osawatomie where they would take their family to fish and camp. Shirley’s greatest treasure was her children and grandchildren!

She was preceded in death by her biological mother and her father and two sisters Dorothy Collins, Wanda Mahan, and granddaughter Jessica Carter.

Survivors include children Melvin (Karen) Kilbourn of Osawatomie, KS, Kevin Kilbourn of Osawatomie, KS and Pamela (Perry) Hodges of Louisburg, KS. Mother Lena Weldon of Columbia, MO, brother Sonny (Patsy) Weldon of Columbia, MO and sister Christine Poe of Columbia, MO. Seven grandchildren Craig (Stephany) Kilbourn, Caleb (Beth) Kilbourn, Courtney (Jimmy) Hoskins, David (Trisha) Kilbourn, Krista Davis, Sara (Garrett) Hall, Dexter Carter, Shawna Carter, and seven great grandchildren. Along with other family and friends.
