Suzanne Bea Hood

Suzanne Bea Hood age 81 of Osawatomie, KS passed away Friday August 11, 2023 at her home.

Suzanne was born January 5, 1942 in Albia, IA. She was the younger of two born to John William and Mary Evelyn (Newell) Foulkes. She attended school in Albia and graduated from Albia High School. After high school, Suzanne attended North East Missouri State Teachers College where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education.

In 1962, Suzanne married Stuart Hood. To this union came two sons, Mark and Michael Hood. The marriage later ended in divorce. Suzanne taught high school P.E. in Marshall Town, IA, Peoria, IL and Wheaton, IL. She then moved to Osawatomie in 1980 where she and Stuart purchased Eastgate Motel and Restaurant.  Together they owned and operated Eastgate until they sold it in 1992. During the time they owned Eastgate, Suzanne also taught at Holy Trinity in Paola. She was also a very well-known employee of the local flower shop, Hanes Florist for over 25 years until her retirement began.

In her free time, Suzanne enjoyed reading and traveling with “the girls”. She was a very active member of the Paola United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping in the church’s thrift shop on the weekends.

Suzanne also enjoyed playing BUNCO at the Elks with her friends, watching KU games, substituting for the Osawatomie School District, visiting her relatives in Iowa, listening to music, and making memories with her family.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael Hood, her parents, and sister Janice Stuchel; all of whom she loved so very much.

Survivors include her son Mark (Tobby) Hood of Lenexa, KS, companion John David Cole of the home, grandchildren: Megan (Steven) Russell, Derek (Jessica) Brown and Tristan Hood. Six great grandchildren: Sarah, Sophia, Jaxson, Ruby, Sabra and Max; along with several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
