Velda Allene Lemon age 98 of Olathe, KS formerly of Parker, KS died Wednesday April 17, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society of Olathe.

Velda was born October 14, 1920 in Fort Scott, KS. She was the youngest of five children born to Ira Oscar and Loula Belle (Brooks) Odell. She attended school in the Fort Scott School District, graduating with the Fort Scott High School Class of 1937.

On December 11, 1937, Velda and Raymond LaClair Lemon were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma.  Together the couple had four children.

The family lived in Beverly, KS until moving to Beatrice, NE in 1955. After Raymond retired, the family moved to Lincoln, NE. Then in 1983, Raymond and Velda moved to a farm in Raymond’s home town of Parker, KS.

Velda stayed home with her children until they were in school. Then she went to work as a secretary for the Stoddard Elementary school in Beatrice. She eventually moved up to the Administration Office of the Beatrice School district as a secretary.

In their spare time, Velda and Raymond were in a bowling league. When they moved to Parker, they planted a huge garden and would can and freeze food. Velda was known for her spaghetti & Italian meat sauce, her taco salad, and Sunday roast. Her family also loved her pickled and fried okra. Every Saturday, Raymond and Velda went out to dinner and dancing with friends. She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church. She always loved singing and sang alto in choirs everywhere she lived.

Velda was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, grandson Matt Lemon, her parents, brothers Merle, Everett, and Eldon Odell, and sister Esther Vaughn.

Survivors include children Ray (Kay) Lemon of Lincoln, NE, Merle D. (Mary) Lemon of Freeport, FL, Charlotte Ann (Russell) Clark of Omaha, NE, and Marilyn R. (Scott) Duncan of Shawnee, KS, Ten grandchildren Michelle Lemon Chrisman, Mike Lemon, Katherine Rue, David Clark, Jennifer Moffatt, Tom Lemon, Alison Duncan, Tom Duncan, and Kevin Duncan. Along with many great grandchildren, other family and friends.
