Violet May Sands age 80 of Osawatomie, KS died Monday December 9, 2019 at her home.
Violet was born September 21, 1939 in Little Blue, MO. She was the fifth of six children born to Earl O. and Velma C. (Hancock) Sallee. She grew up in Independence, MO. She attended Chrisman High and graduated with the class of 1957.
After high school, Violet worked for Hallmark Cards. On October 4 th , 1957, Violet married Harold Ray Shore in Independence, MO. Together they had three children Barbara, Kelly Ray and Terry. The family travelled around the world with while Harold was in the service. They were stationed in Spain, Newfoundland and then at Richards Gebaur Air Force base. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Violet then moved to Belton, MO where she met James Daniel Sands. They were married November 24, 1973 in Independence, MO. Violet gained four step children Tammy, Mike, Jimmy Scott and Shawn and together the couple had a son Brett. They made their home in Belton and then in Dayton, MO. The marriage later ended in divorce. Violet then moved to Osawatomie where she currently resided.
Over the years, Violet worked in various places. She worked at a bowling alley, Belton Inn, Dayton Short Stop convenient store, Little Mex restaurant and Tri-Ko in Osawatomie.
Violet was a collector. She collected angels, butterflies, bears and salt & pepper shakers. She enjoyed gardening, playing the organ and sewing. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Osawatomie. While stationed at various Air Force bases she was a member of the NCO club and in a bowling league.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Stewart, son Brett Sands, her parents, two brothers Delbert Sallee and Wayne Sallee.
Survivors include her children Kelly Ray Shore of Olathe, KS, Terry Shore of Osawatomie, KS, Step children Tammy Hansen of Iola, KS, Mike Sands of Grandview, MO, Jimmy Scott Sands of Arkansas and Shawn Sands of Arkansas. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Along with other family and friends.
