Virginia Frances Waggoner

March 12, 1929 — February 26, 2024

Virginia Frances Waggoner age 94 of Osawatomie, KS died Monday February 26, 2024 at Vintage Park Osawatomie.
Ginger was born March 12, 1929 in Paola, KS. She was the eldest of two daughters born to Harold Ulysses and Georgia Frances (Watson) Barber.  She grew up in Osawatomie and attended Osawatomie High School where she graduated with the class of 1947.
She was married to Raymond Eugene “Shorty” Waggoner on April 2, 1949. They made their home in Osawatomie and became the parents of four children.
Ginger worked at 1st National Bank until her first baby, Bruce, was born. She then stayed at home to be a full-time mother until her youngest child, Brad, entered kindergarten. She then began working as a secretary for the Doug Hagadorn Insurance Agency. In 1970, Ginger began working for the Osawatomie School District in order for her work schedule to coincide with her children's school schedule. She worked as the principal's secretary at the East Elementary School in the mornings and then went to high school to serve as the “lunch lady” and take care of the deposits for all of the school cafeterias. She worked for the school district until 1989 when she retired.
After retirement Ginger became a vital component at the Osawatomie Golf Course which was managed by her son, Bruce, until his death in 2000, then by her son, Brad, until 2016. She was involved in all aspects of the golf course including cooking for special events, working in the clubhouse, assisting with tournaments, and generally helping things run smoothly.
In their younger years, Shorty was actively involved with the Elks, Ginger participated in the activities of the Elks Ladies Auxiliary. She played bridge with friends but Ginger’s greatest hobby was her family Holidays were always spent at her house with her doing most of the preparation and cooking. Family, including her parents , her sister, Sandy, and family and Ginger’s children and grandchildren would not feel it was really a holiday unless they spent it at the home of Ginger and Shorty. She cherished and loved to spoil her grandchildren.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading, even though her children didn't realize this until they were adults because she didn't ever seem to sit down long enough for these leisure activities. Her children were much more spoiled than they realized until they were adults and had to balance the responsibilities of jobs, homes, and families of their own. They all agree that their mom was the hardest working person they have ever known.
She was preceded in death by her husband Shorty, one son Bruce, and her parents.
Survivors include one daughter Brenda Martin and her husband Andy of Paola; two sons Brent Waggoner and his wife Lauree of Osawatomie and Brad Waggoner and his wife Jennifer of Tuscan, AZ; five grandchildren Melissa Martin, Allison Waugh, Amy Henness, Zach Martin, and Bryce Waggoner;  8  great grandchildren Emerson, Isla, Hannah, Ethan, Guile, Aspen, Erdrick and Ruby;, her sister , Sandy, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
