Walter W. Noll age 97 of Osawatomie, KS passed away January 12, 2025.
Walter was born April 1, 1927 in Lyndon, Kansas to Peter and Opal (Ferris) Noll. He grew up in the Quenemo and Homewood Kansas areas, and graduated from Williamsburg, High School with the class of 1945. After graduating, Walter worked on the family farm until enlisting in the US Army and spent 18 months in Germany.
After returning he started working for the Santa Fe Railroad, where he met his future wife Gloria Machalk who was a Teletype Operator for Santa Fe. They married September 27, 1952 settling down in Overland Park and became the parents of 7 children.
In 1968 they purchased a farm south of Osawatomie and over time had about every type of farm animal imaginable. Walter’s love was working mules and horses, he owned several teams over the years entering them in local parades and events. He retired in 1988 from Santa Fe after nearly 40 years of service, during his retirement he spent a lot of time building his show harness for his teams and took great pride in showing them.
Walter was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, August, Joe and Bill. His wife Gloria, son’s Walter Jr. and Charles. Daughter Patricia Noll, Grandson Christopher Lyons, and Granddaughter Ashleigh Jefferson.
He is survived by his sister Nola Ogle of Ottawa, daughter Lillian Noll of Osawatomie, son’s Paul (Kelli) Noll of Paola, Wayne (Becky) Noll of Spring Hill, and Steven (Tammie) Noll of LaCygne, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
