Walter Gay Slater Jr. age 76 of Osawatomie, KS died Monday March 1, 2021 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Walter was born July 12, 1944 in Topeka, KS. He was the youngest of four children born to Walter Gay Sr. and Mayble Leana (Cline) Slater. He grew up in Osawatomie. Graduating with the Osawatomie High School Class of 1964.
After high school, Walter went into the work force. He worked for Melinda Ann Laundry as a driver for a year and a half. Then, he reconditioned cars for Morris Chevrolet in Ottawa. In 1966, Walter started working for Kulhman Diecasting Co. Stanley Kansas for 25 years. Then he went on to work for Broadway Collections for 13 years. In 2008, Walter retired from Grand Co industries after working for them for 3 years and 7 months.
On December 4, 1977, Walter and Ginger Ann Houseman were united in marriage in Osawatomie, KS. To this union came one son, Philip J. Slater. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In his spare time, Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool and collecting coins. He was a member of the 1 st Baptist Church of Osawatomie and the Pearl Street Baptist Church of Paola. Walter was a former member of the Elks, Red Fox and KD’s Bar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Alfred Slater, Stanley Slater and one sister Nell Slater.
Survivors include his son Philip Slater of Great Bend, KS, grandchildren Alexis Slater and Bronxdyn Slater. Along with other family and many friends.
