Wava Ilene Carter

Wava Ilene Carter age 82 of Osawatomie, KS died Wednesday August 30, 2023 at Vintage Park of Osawatomie.

Wava was born March 25, 1941 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Wava was the eldest of six children born to Millard Franklin and Laura Elizabeth (Wood) Wyatt. She grew up in Mt. Sterling, KY until she was 12 and then they moved Weston, Missouri. Wava quit school to help her family on the farm.

In 1964, Wava and Richard Schwab were united in marriage in Oklahoma on a military base. Wava became the mother of three children; Lori Ann, Mary Kathryn and Brian Blake. They lived in Iowa and then moved to Kansas in 1970. The marriage later ended in divorce. Then in 1979, Wava married Louis Carter in Miami, Oklahoma. To this union came one son; Tyler James. They were married until Louis’ passing in 2005.

Wava worked for Maid Rite in Iowa. She then went to work for Marley Cooling Tower, later known as SPX Cooling technologies) in Olathe. Wava worked in production for 30 years before having to retire due to her failing health. She then went to work at Wal-Mart as a door greeter. Retiring fully in 2014.

When she was not working, Wava spent her time at home watching soap operas, game shows, and westerns. She enjoyed flowers and country music.

She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Carter, her parents Millard Wyatt, Laura and Henry “Jake” Jacobs and one brother Merle Wyatt.

Survivors include her children; Lori (David) Horan of Leavenworth, KS, Kathy (Kelly) Feighner of Lane, KS, Brian (Penny) Schwab of Ottawa, KS and Tyler “TJ” Carter of Pleasanton, KS. Twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Siblings; Herman Wyatt, Jesse Wyatt, Laurel Elaine Minear and Anita Johnson. Along with nieces, nephews and other family.

Memorials are to the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home to help with the cost of the service.
